|
|
I am new and learning, so please bear with me.
I notice some racks with the tubes covered with foil to protect the shells in them from the elements and premature ignition. Afraid to learn by just trying, I just want to know, does the shell normally blow right through the foil, knock it out of the way, or do I have to remove the foil before lighting the shell in any tube?
Should the foil be loosely placed on the mortar or can it more securely be formed over the top of the tube? I assume one ply if the shell just blows through? And finally what kind of foil do you use. Will the average Reynolds Wrap do or do you need really light weight foil?
Sorry for all the questions but I figure why not ask the experts here instead of risking danger by doing it wrong. Thanks! |

The shells will simply blow right thru the foil. As far as what kind to use, that is a personal preference. I myself like to use a heavier foil so it doesn't tear as easily when foiling the racks.
One extra note, using foil leaves a good deal of mess. _________________ PGI Member

| Yes, like stated above the shells will blow right through the foil no problem. Any type of standard aluminum foil will work great. You can tape it tightly if you like. Also if you are using shell racks or cakes or anything with stickymatch, you should cover it with foil. Sparks from other cakes can easily light objects prematurely. |

| Even a lowly 5" single tube FOUNTAIN will burn through foil. It does not effect the performance at all. I use foil on fountains in my Safe and Sane shows to protect fountains from premature ignition. |

Spray adhesive is often used to attach the foil to cakes too. _________________ Member
