Default Indiana NFPA guidelines

Technically the state of Indiana has not adopted the NFPA regulations in the fire industry. Would these regulations still apply when it comes to pyrotechnics? My guess is no considering that the entire state does not recognize the NFPA but uses it only as a guideline. This could be the reason why we have seen so many large 1.3 shows shot well with what I would consider close proximity to the crowd. Found out last night in training that the state does not officially follow the NFPA guildlines.

The state of Indiana might not, but its my understanding most 1.3 insurance policy insurers use NFPA as way to ensure their policy holders are atleast meeting some standard so I suspect even if the state isn't holding them to it their insurance provider is.

Pa. doesn't follow NFPA guidelines either, but the insurance company does. That is what is most important anyway.
Screw up with them, and you screwed up royally!

JR - For the fire service, Indiana does not recognize any NFPA guidelines as law, you are correct. For fire training, there isn't any law specified, but to follow the NFPA guidelines. It's kind of a loop.

As for shoots, I would say NFPA still applies to pyro. I asked my fire chief what he looks for when approving a shoot site. He wants the lead to have a decent resume all NFPA guidelines followed as a minimum.

IOSHA and the IDEM all refer back to NFPA for firefighter safety and live burn training.
