Default WA September 29th shoot is on!!!

    Hello folks,

Thanks for being patient. After I contacted everyone from the State Fire Marshall's office to the Executive director of the Governer's office of Indian Affairs to the Snohomish County Sheriff's office to the Snohomish County Fire Marshall's office I have finally gotten the definitive word on whether a permit is required or not.

The problem I had is that much of the information on Parcel maps and other county databases were not updated and did not show the land as being "Tribal Land." Lacking that desciption it was not clear that the tribe had full jurisdiction with respect to the shoot site.

I finally got in contact with the Snohomish County department of Planning and Development and spoke with Neil Anderson. He has the most updated parcel map data and he was able to confirm that the parcel in question aquired by the Stillaguamish Tribe in April of this year is in fact now designated as "Tribal Land." This means that the county Fire Marshal does not have jurisdiction and the authorization to shoot does in fact belong with the tribe as Eddie had stated.

My apologies to Eddie. It was critical that there was absolutely no doubt with respect to this. I was afraid that we might have a scenario where Eddie was correct but the local authorities did not have the latest information with respect to this. Even if we ultimately proved any interference from them was unfounded, they could have still shown up and stopped the shoot.

    Sooooooo.......

Here is where we left it with respect to attendence. Please forgive any oversights here. Let us know if you are still up for the shoot!

Great News! I'm glad there is no question to our ablility to do a legal shoot.

Im still waiting for school to start (Sept 17). Untill then, I won't be able to tell if I can even afford gas money...

Thanks for all your hard work Missinglink!

Great, thanks again for all your work! Unless something unexpected comes up I will be there.

Steve - Are you coming or will I need to redesign my board?

    boaty - Check your PMs...

Should we start figuring food out now or what? I liked our food deal last time.

The other thing is basic rules, here is what we did the last two times:

    1. No 1.3g
    2. No alcohol
    3. No rockets
    4. If you have safety gear, bring it and use it.
    5. Whatever the safety officer says goes.
    6. Clean up your mess.

Works for me, anyone hand firing should wear eye protection, additional gear beyond that is always a good idea.

We have also talked about requiring all cakes to be braced and I think it is a good idea. When shooting single cakes we should put a brick/cinderblock on two sides to keep everything stable. Product set out on boards for a group show like last time should be at least taped/glued down. We should also be a little more proactive in establishing a proper setback distance than last time, where we had to get a bunch of people to move back before we started shooting.

Good work Tim! I know from personal experience the joy of working the phones to get to the higher-ups......it can be a challenge that pushes even the most patient.

I will be bringing a trailer up and could probably get my gas grill in there. If it is needed/wanted, I would be more than happy to bring it. No rockets? We had rockets of all shapes and sizes up at Steve's place last May. I only have a handful or two of bottle rockets but I just wanted clarification on this rule as it is new to me. I will have my board 80% completed by the shoot day and I will bring my racks. I will bring fuse, fast and slow, shells, and bunches of little stuff. I'll try to bring some plywood and I'll grab some tarps.

I also wanted to talk again about video. My guy is available but we would need to make some decisions as a group pretty quickly to secure his involvement.

Its good to be back on for this shoot as it was beginning to look like a bust. I can't wait!

I'm not really sure about the rocket thing. I copied that list of rules from the thread for our first group shoot (remember that one?!) and we didn't do any rockets then. If the space is large enough, fire danger is low, and Eddie is ok with it, rockets would probably be fine, but we should clarify that in advance.

Video would be great if possible, so we should figure that out as soon as we can.

For the video, I think if each of us pyro-u members could contribute $15-$20 each that would give us something to work with. Based on the current list, we would have $300-$350 to give him for the video. Each of us would receive a professionally produced and edited DVD to our spec. This could include individual item demos, cake board competition, group finale, setup and whatever else we would like to include. I'm also thinking that in addition to the finished DVD we could also get a DVD copy of the raw footage in its entirety.

To get it started, I for one will donate $40 for the video......let me know if you are able to contribute. Many of us are in different places financially and will struggle just to pay for the gas to get to the shoot. I do not want to obligate any potential participants to donating for the video. It was all I could do to show up for the last shoot, much less buy any fireworks to donate to the group finale, and I had a great time. So please don't feel bad if you can't contribute and I'm sure that we can get copies to any member that wants one. Any thoughts or feedback?

I would appreciate it if you brought your grill. Mine's natural gas and attached to my house or I'd bring it. I'll be bringing some meat as long as a grill will be present.

For the video, I'm willing to chip in if enough people are interested to make it possible to not spend more than about $30 each on it. Also, as discussed before, we would need to have say over what usage the cameraman would retain of the footage afterwards.

I can draft something on paper to specify ownership and control of the footage. I will do so when suitable contributions have been pledged and schedules are confirmed.

$300 is probably the low end for Dave's video and editing services. If we get 10 guys to donate, then we would be on the hook for about $30. If we could get 15 or 20 guys then obviously it would be less. If some of our more benevolent members would like to donate a larger portion, or the whole cost for that matter, please don't be shy!

Keep in mind some of the guys are students and we needn't burden them with additional costs. Doesn't crowninb have a decent camera?

hey whats up yea u have to let me know what were doing if were going to use my camera i will have to snag it from the gf,... my only concern is the 4gb i have in high deff runs abour 1 hour 30 min so u have to consider how long things will be etc.... i wouldnt also say it will be equivelent to a guy doing it prob with a camcorder in hd or something along those lines but for digital cameras its pretty solid

I'm just trying to have some cakes to contribute, so I probably couldn't put more than $10 towards a video.

If you have a camera that would work and somebody is willing to operate it (that knows how!) I say we just do that. An hour and a half ought to be enough as long as we focus on getting boards and any finale show primarily, single items etc if it looks like we won't have any particularly long duration stuff. Is there a way to reduce quality slightly to fit more video?

Well, some most unfortunate news on my end of the shoot. I will be unable to attend due to a conflicting trip that I am required to take for on of my classes this semseter. We leave the morning of the 29th...go figures right?

Thank you so much for all the work you put into this Missinglink! I'm glad everything worked out. Hopefully you can have plenty of time to relax the next few weeks and enjoy yourself at the shoot!

Concerning video. Although i will not be attending, i would still be more than willing to contribute money toward a professional video. I want it to be clear that i have nothing again Crowninb using his camera or one of our own guys doing it, nor do i think they would do a bad job. To be honest, i think one of our own guys would do a great job. But, from what i've heard, this professional DVD is a must have in my mind. The guy could provide us with raw footage to post on the forums as well as an awesome end product that is quality! (again, not saying our guys couldn't do just as amazing) So, again, even though i can't attend, i would/will still chip in and contribute toward the video fund. Its well worth the few bucks for what i would get in return!

(P.S. Sorry for my lack of participation in this whole thing. School started a couple of weeks ago...so my life has been anything but normal. I'm slowly getting into the groove, so i should be around more often now.)

I am definitely in for this. Sorry to sound like a dummy, but where in Snohomish County is this taking place? i don't care where, I just need to know where to go!

Can someone post up a summary of the days events, location, and times, so dummies like me can plan for it?

    Thanks!

I talked to Eddie today..Turns out he owns the field just east of the shoot site. I think our buddies at the NWPA are going to need bibbs!!! What a nice shoot site. With the one field owned by Eddie and the other the tribe, a licensed 1.3G shooter could create a real nice setback for some big shells!!

Hey I completely missed this post from the last thread.

I sent an email to Scott Willis.. I will CC the others too but I got the impression they were focused on the NWPA shoots. Perhaps we can get them on board for the Spring shoot... It will likely be all 1.4G but I got the impression they don't mind that a bit....

So far we have the following people for the 9/29 shoot......

    For sure:
    RPS
    seuss1973
    moodog
    crowninb
    mbahansen
    Eddie0
    rennis
    missinglink
    closer1138

    Likely to show:
bcfireworks - He has to make sure he will really be free that weekend before he commits but I think he will be there.
ssgroy - He gets back from Iraq on or before the 25th. I still expect him to come.

Posted from the last thread they would show but no more followup:
    pyronutx2
    tjfireworks
    zombie93

Colin and mindset133 may also make it. Colin has classes and mindset133 is moving at that time.

So we have 9 people who are coming for sure and many are bringing guests. Eddie will have his own crowd too. I full expect ssgroy to show and BC too. So that brings us up to 11. If tjfireworks, zombie93 and pyronutx2 show we will be up to 14... If we get colin and mindset133 we wil be up to 16!!!!

I think we are in pretty darn good shape. :

I think the money for video may be a good idea next time but my funds will be better spent on pyro and diapers for this Sept. I think some of the guys have pretty nice equipment for our needs but i appreciate the efforts, Closer. Of course, if everyone wants to do the DVD and I'm the only nay I'll chip in of course, its just not my first choice.

Ok, there's not much here....I'm just trying to stimulate the thread!!!

If the BBQ makes it, that would be sweet ass.

Agreed, I don't think this is going to be big enough to justify spending that much on video. Hopefully the next shoot will have a lot more people and we can split the cost more. I'd say whoever has something that can take video, bring it and we'll do what we can.

I was wondering about food too. Last time we had a nice big spread, but we don't have as many people this time. Do we want each person to bring something to contribute for dinner, or should people take care of themselves?

Now now.... It could still be decent sized ... maybe not on the order of the last shoot but 9 to 14 people plus guests can do some serious Pyro... One of my most favorite fourth of July's was sort of an impromptu block party. I headed out with Family in tow to a little dock on a lake.. I shot few cakes... next thing ya know, the folks on the left came over stash in hand and the folks on the other side of them..

We shot single items all night long... It was really nice.. no pressure... just enjoying really getting to see what each product can do...

Of course if we get enough for a show we can do that.... but I am just lookin' forward to whatever...

I agree about the video.. Sorry Closer but let's do the vid next shoot. If crowninb can borrow his Grand pappy's camera we are good to go....

Just wanted to let you all know that I'll most likely be bringing 3 or 4 pyros with me. Perhaps more.

I've got a bunch of product I want to demo, so with what others are bringing and what will be available from EddieO I think we'll have a pretty good amount of product. I'll probably be doing a board, one of my buds coming with me might also. crowninb, we need to figure out when we've both got free time.

I agree about the camera situation, let's wait until the spring when we'll probably have a bigger showing.

For food; as long as Closer or someone else is bringing a grill, I'll be bringing hot dogs and hamburgers plus buns and condiments. If others want to bring extras such as soda, water, chips, salads (potato, pasta, green, etc...), beans, slaw, etc... Then we would have a pretty decent layout. I've got lots of paper plates, plasticware and napkins too. If hot dogs or hamburgers don't do it for you, might want to bring some chicken or veggie burgers or something as well.

Quick question. Anyone know anywhere locally I can buy cases of World Class product at wholesale (or close to) prices? I need some stuff for New Years and Victory doesn't have what I'm looking for in stock, and the other out of staters who carry WC aren't legal for me to order from. Main items I'm looking for are Excals, Critical Acclaims, Big Package, King of Brocade, American Trucker, One Big S.O.B., and Fan Shaped Smoke Cake.

Sweet, good to hear you'll bring some extra people and fireworks! I should see about bringing my brother to chip in a little... Hot dogs and burgers sounds fine to me, I can bring some veggies or fruit or something.

Fan Shaped Smoke Cake...laziest name ever, but I'd love to see it.

Oh, and reply to my email!

Just replied to your email, sorry for the delay, I totally spaced out and forgot about it.

Just emailed SeattleJay. He's a member on here but hasn't been checking the boards, he'll probably be at the shoot too.
