I have shot the ACE ones. I wouldn't call them "silent" but they don't have the scream, just the whoosh pause whoosh.

I was at Kellners with Johhny..Was a great time..
Here is whats on Ace's website,
30cm Twice Rising Girandola
30cm Butterfly (Girandola)
Now the second one is WAAAAY cheaper but it specifically says "butterfly". Is that the proper term for the cape like glittering tail ones??
Im not 100% sure sorry.

Just talked to Pete Willi... Are these dolas bought from Ace/Fireart?
If so do you have a vid and or picture of the item # anywhere because they said they have not changed the dolas they have brought in for several years.. So if I can figure out which ones you bought from them then I would have my answer!!
I am looking for the effect I see in so many of the Italian shows where you have a very quiet gentle whoosh with a golden cape like tail then pauses and repeats.. I will try and find a vid of the ones I am looking for.
Thanks in advance!
Eric
Mine came from ACE several years ago. Twice rising. No other effects. No vids to show.
When you say "cape" I believe you are thinking of the butterfly effect in a single rising dola.

So I just bought some twice rising and the butterfly effect girandola. I will post video after we shoot them. I have a question, for any of you who have launched them before. What exactly do you use to launch them off of? Do you just use a dowel rod? If yes do you need to put a pin through the dowel rod so that it doesn't drop too far down? Here is a picture of the girandola.

thanks
Take a piece of plywood bigger than the dola, maybe 12"x12" and drill a 1/2" hole in the center of it and pound a 1-2 ft piece of 3/8" rebar or wood dowell through the hole. You need at least about 6" to make it go semi-straight. Longer = straighter (normally). Paint the dowell or rebar orange so no one trips on it and it is easier to find later.

How about one like this ?

Thanks, here is a follow up question. Will the dola sit on the wood and then spin itself up up and away? or will it just sit on top end of the rebar and take off from there? Sorry just never shot one and wasn't sure how to construct the launch pad....
Yes, just slide the dola down to rest on the plywood. When it takes off it spins a litle swirl exhaust mark on the board but they take of very fast. You just need a smooth surface. You wouldn't want to try to launch them from the grass. They need to get spinning before they can rise.

I got some screaming girondolas for this year's show and wanted to double check which side is up. I'm assuming fuse is on the top side, cups of plastic on the bottom, but just wanted to double check.
When you assume.........
Without seeing it, there is no way to tell you which way is up. I am suprised it does not say on it. Look at the bright side...you have a 50/50 chance on the first one.

The 'dolas we use on our shows have the fuse on the bottom, and the headings on top of each driver. The one in the picture a few posts above looks upside down to me. I can't say that I have seen any ones that were fused from the top.

Thanks for all the help guys, I will Post video. Yes we bought them from Fire Art. Actually we bought the twice rising and the Butterfly dola's gearing up for the show. We like to mix things up and get a little away from just the same old cakes and shells....Here is the picture of the dola right side up....
I have the same red cups/frame on our dolas, That makes sense that they would be on top to push into the air. Mine aren't marked up/down either. I need to get the platforms and dowels made for them now. I'm excited to mix up the show with them too, shooting off some stickless rockets in pairs with them. Do they take off instantly more/less?
I setup a ton of Dolas for Pyrofest in Pittsburgh last month. We used rebar with a ziptie about a foot from the top and put a washer on the ziptie. The Dolas rested on the washer and were ematched to the firing system. It does a number on the grass around the rebar so be careful about product and wires around the launch site.
