How about they do a show as a fundraiser for the homeless?
everyone is a little happier.

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.

Recently Michelle Obama went to serve food to the homeless at a government funded soup kitchen.
Cost of a bowl of soup at homeless shelter $0.00 dollars
Having Michelle Obama Serve you your soup $0.00 dollars
Snapping a picture of a homeless person who is receiving a government funded meal while taking a picture of the first lady, using his $500 Black Berry cell phone -- $$$$ Priceless

Unfortunately with the present economy this is a trend this year. I read all the articles in the new wires about fireworks every day and every day I see at least three stories about 4th of July events getting canceled this year. The combination of the price increases and the lack of funding is really doing a number this season. I choose not to post about any since things are depressing enough as it is.

Now, the cost of the show is allocated around $15,000, the rest is Fire, Police, and Parks Department overtime. Sounds like this was a nice little money maker for the folks in those departments, if you ask me. Notice it's "work with area charities to help needy families", not feed the homeless. Or take pictures of Michele Obama, for that matter... I suspect the money the city will use to help needy families would be the 15 grand, not the 39. And that's assuming they use it for that at all, for those of you familiar with the workings of local governments, "The city intends to" does not necessarily mean they will...MONTEBELLO - The City Council has voted unanimously to cancel this year's 4th of July fireworks show. With the down economy, the city decided against spending $39,093 for the show. The city intends to use the money to work with area charities to help needy families, according to City Administrator Richard Torres.
All this really sucks. Not only will people miss out on the pyro but also on the bbq and other foods and rides provided at these public events. Im sure i would be totally bumbed if i depended solely on the city fireworks show for my fourth of july fun.![]()

Don't get me started on this. I have been in the Marine Corps Reserves for about 9 years now.
Several of those years we did Toys for Tots where half our unit was dressed in their Dress Blues and the other half were in their Cammies.
The group dressed up would escort the families through the food and clothing lines then over to the toys pushing their cart.
The group in the cammies would carry all those items out to their cars.
I did it both ways over two years.
You should have seen all the people who were talking on their cell phones, wearing their name brand ghetto clothing, and driving brand new Lincoln Navigators with rims and Bose systems. It was enough to make me sick.
There were of course the families who really did need it and were humble though.
Guy walks into the local military recruiting office.
Sergeant says, "So you want to help defend the country?"
Guy says, "No, I just want salutes."
thank God i still have a job to buy my own pyro and gas money to shoot up to ALAMO OR MOAPA and have a good 3 day fourth of july weekend.
ill just stop by Famous Daves BARBEQUE in vegas and get me a DEVILS SPITFIRE burger , some ribs and corn bread.![]()
Tell me about it. During the Rodney King riot, I could here my neighbors jumping up and down getting all exited and saying "lets go Cuz". That night they rolled in with all new funiture and every thing else for that matter clothing, food, electronics. It was enough to make me sick, not one of those crack dealers even had a lagit job.
I haven't had a Devil's Spitfire burger yet..had some Q brought to us at work a while ago..decent, but I think Memphis Championship BBQ is better, IMHO.
They are both on the same street, Rainbow Boulevard. Memphis is near Oakey, and Dave's is just south of Lake Mead.

"The guy who said that "Ignorance is Bliss" probably wasn't a pyro. If he was, he probably wasn't one for very long." - vegasfire
it is great there. the food is unbelievable. i think the burger and the spitfire sauce is like a million calories of fun.
kinda pricey but worth it.the one out by my house is packed every freakin day. 30 to 45 minute wait.
the town here is still having a fireworks shows this year. food , rides , the whole shebang. too bad i wont be here to enjoy.
hopefully and maybe next year.
I WOULD LIKE TO TRAVEL WITH "THE TRAVEL CHANNEL " WHEN THEY GO CROSS COUNTRY TO ALL THOSE DELICIOUS BBQ SPOTS.![]()
Cool thanks, I think I'll try the one closer towards pahrump. It seems to be busier.
vegasfireIf I'm not mistaken they have 3 locations. And I have tried memphis bbq many years back. I wasn't to pleased with it, maybe the location.I haven't had a Devil's Spitfire burger yet..had some Q brought to us at work a while ago..decent, but I think Memphis Championship BBQ is better, IMHO.

For curiosities sake, I took a look at the site. Man, what a scam. It's hard to accept that the general public is supposed to trust 'their' professional guidelines.
If you read the site they took the statistics from a year which would have the most inflated numbers, some from 2004, some from 2006, etc.
So we have these honest, professional and ethical officials mis-leading the public to believe fireworks are more dangerous than actual statistics show.![]()

use fireworks, not drugs!Even though the laws make it easier to use drugs!
Good News:
For some...
Disneyland usually holds a special fireworks show dedicated to the 4th of July only held on the 4th of July. It is much more spectacular than anything else they do with Pyro.
They will now be having the show July 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
You can search youtube for their 2007 show. (2008 was cancelled due to winds)
Note: I'm sure you all know you don't need to be in the park to actually view the fireworks.
