Wow - my wife (who knows I love fireworks, enjoys watching them, but isn't quite sure how to feel about the $$$$ I spend on them each year) picked out her first firework.
I was browsing around and she came up behind me and said, "Here - I want to get this one". I can't tell you how good it felt to have her pick something out. What was it you ask? It's a peacock shaped fountain and I'll have it going right at the beginning of the show just for her.

That's awesome! That is very nice of you for having the firework that she picked out be lit first! :)

It is very cool that she has taken the first step to possibly becoming a full fledged pyro addict. She may not realize it now but she may be on her way to getting hooked. Starting your show with her fountain is a nice touch, but it would be even better if you could get her to light it herself.
My wife started out the exact same way by picking out one fountain. Soon she was hand-firing half of our shows. A year later she was a member of PGI lighting up the class C firing line at the convention. Last week she asked me if I would take her to the South Carolina SE shoot in August for her birthday. You never know where picking out one fountain will lead.

I agree 100% with ya D1swfl,
It only takes that one single experience of picking the first one out.
When she sees it going off and loves it and you tell her that was her selection, what's could be next? Her picking out something bigger maybe......;)
My wife is not overly excited about fireworks, although she does love watching 'em after a few glasses of wine :) , she supports my hobby and that's all I could ask for. She actually asked me if I was going to another open house next year and that she would participate more in this one (to which my jaw dropped), and told her that I had 2 lined up for next year. Dapkus' again, and Kneppys....
Maybe down the road sometime, I'll open up a Christmas present and it'll be something like a box of "S&M's", "Excals" or a "Chopper" or something like that.
I can dream......

My wife picked out her first fireworks last year in the retail store. I remember feeling the same way. She still thinks I'm crazy for spending what I did this year, but she likes fireworks.
Just earlier this week, I asked her if she minded if I went to the sales on the fifth to see if I could find any reasonable deals on some small stuff. She said only if she gets to watch them get fired off. My kind of woman!!

It is a great way to spread the bug! Recently shot a 12-cue show for my brothers Highschool graduation party. I let my 5 year old cousin open the show as a birthday gift to him. He had the biggest smile on his face. :)

When I first met my wife she was petrified of fireworks. Within a few days of our first purchase together she was arranging them for our show in sequence, then she was fusing racks. Now I am proud to say she has more knowledge of fireworks than I do. Ask her what an item does and she will tell you. What a great woman:D

If my fiance picked out Brother's Love fountain, I might be having a talk with my brother :D
Seriously, my wife and kids chose to go to the beach for a week over my fireworks show. The kids are disappointed, but there's no hope for my wife...

My wife likes to watch them, but doesn't show any more interest than that. My girls on the other hand have been bitten by the bug. My elder has been hepling plan my shows for years. In fact this year I gave her the price-list, told her what to spend, and two days later she returned two different shopping lists. We mulled though them, and came of with a decent show. My 9-yo was in the garage laying out boards until 11:30 last night. What was that tell you about her love of pyro?

My wife has always liked fireworks, She was bitten by the bug at a show put on at Cedar Point July 4th 1999. It was a Zambelli show. This year we went to Thunder Over Louisville. She planned the entire trip, I couldn't even video the whole show, only one barge. In her eyes next year is the time to take video, not the first time ( sounds kind of wrong ) This year she went with me to Millers on my third trip. When she looked at the price difference between wholesale & retail, she was hooked. She was an eagle eye at BigFireworks. Now I know she will be helping plan next year!! :D

Sorry to hear some of these stories above, my wife is great about fireworks! Loves to see the show, has no problem with my setting it all up, research, etc. She also doesn't mind the $ spent either as she she stays at home with our daughter and I work, I think she would feel bad telling me not to spend, or how to spend the money I earn. Plus I don't have any other vices, so this is my thing. I don't smoke, I rarely drink, I don't gamble(much), or go to strip clubs etc. I think if I were out drinking and coming home drunk every weekend (or weekday), or always gone hunting, or going to out all the time, she might not like it as much. I always try to put it into perspective like that when she sees how much I buy. Plus I always buy wholesale now and I get about 4-5x the product for the same $ amount. Which is always nice to bring up.
I really feel for the guys who have to ship wives and/or family off for the week etc. Or even worse, mention the word divorce. Don't know what to say other than bummer.

I feel very lucky to be married to my pyro-wife. When we met she was totally ambivalent towards fireworks. Slowly, over the past 8 years she has totally transformed into a major supporter of the hobby.
This year, she organized and ran a huge garage sale over Father's Day weekend with all proceeds going towards extra pyro. She is always trying to get me to light stuff year round. I end up having to tell her no out of respect for the neighbors and local laws.
We are looking to buy a house with acerage and designating a shoot site for year-round pyro......and eventually display fireworks! We've looked at several and if its not pyro friendly, she is not interested!
She is always up for pro displays....even when they are out of the country! This year she helped make purchase decisions for our first buy of the season and she picked out a case all by herself. She chose Peacock by World Class! :) :) :)

My girlfriend is really cool with my addiction. this will be our 5th Fourth of July together and she's pretty supportive of my show. It probably helps that I entertain all of her friends and have a big barbeque for everyone at the lake before the show starts.

My B-day is July 5, throw in Fathers day and it was a family thing. Everone went to Jakes and let me pick out what I wanted. My wife has been great and this year we celebrated early to get in on group buy. I feel fortunate.....OkieDan

I'm lucky that my wife loves fireworks.
Everyone works at being safe while using fireworks. One extra thing I have to pay attention to is getting between my wife and the bottle rockets!
She tries to be "responsible" cash-wise when we go shopping for fireworks. Her budget cap always deteriorates once she walks into the fireworks store. That's part of the fun for me...watching her hidden inner-pyro take over. It's amazing how fast I turn into the responsible one in terms of budget and safety.
