Hello all. I am new to this forum, but have been doing pyro for some years now. I need your imput for a show I will be having on a private lake. We will be shooting a show sync. to music, and my buddy thinks that the last song should be tapps. I don't like this idea because this is a show for the 4th, (uplifting) and we are near a airforce base. Any commits will be appreciated.

Thanks
Chad

It's probably a great idea if you are lighting Snakes for your finale.

What a downer for an ending :(

If you want to use tapps use it at the start along with 21 gun salute 3 volleys of seven follow with a short part of the song arlington . close with something fast and upbeat

The 4th is about the birth of a nation, not the death if it. I would skip the tapps. There are some really good patriotic songs out there to use.
Taps would be good to put in a Memorial day display.

MAybe start the show with taps in honor of all our fallen brethren in the wars then kick it in big time. If its a patriotic themed show I would end with the star spangled banner or even the 1812 overture! Just my $.02

In my humble opinion the only song worse than playing "tapps" for a 4th of July finale would be "send in the clowns". Try to use an energetic upbeat song for your finale. You want your audiance feeling energized and excited when your show is done, not depressed and sullen.

Honoring our fallen hero's by playing tapps might be acceptable at the beginning of your show if it is tied in with a moment of silence type ceremony.

I am a combat vet and I would not play taps. The 4th is a celebration of the birth of our nation not of the sacrifice the soldiers made for it. I am all for honoring our military and do at every appropriate opportunity, the 4th isn't one.

Well I had a feeling that the community would not want to hear tapps at the end of a show. My freind did want me to point out that he would like to play the song at the very end AFTER the finale. Tapps is brodcast around the lake via a 4h camp at the end of the lake, every night for bed time. So he would like to brodcast tapps after all the fireworks are done. Does this change anyones minds?

I would say coordinate with them and let THEM play taps as it is thier "tradition" as it were...

In general keep it up beat and moving though.

You have military close by and in attendance so the patriotic stuff makes sense, also depends on your audience.

I know I chose to excersize my freedom by NOT playing the classic patriotic music every single fourth of July. Everyone does it, specially the big pro show which are all over the place on the 2-5th around here. I usually pick a theme my family (primary audience) will appreciate and then mix music to fit that theme, now if I can mix a patriotic sing in there that matches with the theme all the better, but I do not limit myself to just those songs. They usually get played by my Dj buddy during the course of the day before the evening festivities.

Yep, if it is after the fireworks that is totally appropriate as this is part of a tradition. During the fireworks I wouldn't do it.

Just a thought, let the camp play taps. When it's over, you play Happy Trails by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans or anyone ells that dose it.
