You people and your fancy 12 shot racks!!
4 15" mortars works just fine. (they're 12s in the picture, but have beew swapped for 15s that I use much more regularly).

I've often wondered why racks are 5, 10, 20, etc. shots when fireworks usually come in 6, 12, 24, 36, or numbers that are divisible by 6. :)

Same reason hot dogs are packs of 10, buns are packs of 8...;)
My racks are sized based on how many tubes will fit into the latest milk crate I've glommed onto.

pyroreview...... because we don't buy just one box :) 10 boxes of 12.......120 shells is divisible by 6 20 shot racks
It's called "pyro-math"

Sure, it works great for 120, but what if you have ten 20 shot racks?
I have ten 20 shot racks and four 12 shot racks. Personally, I think racks would sell better if they came in lots of 6, 12, 24, etc. Just my two cents.

I try keeping mine a set "size" rather than mortar count. That way they stack nice and neat, etc. So if I were building all my racks to 48 inches, then each would have only as many mortars that fit depending on the size of the mortar. In the case of a show that NFPA must be followed, any racks with chained shells can only have a maximum number of mortars. So if you followed NFPA your racks should not have more than 15 chained shells in them for anything 3inches and under.

i'm starting to think that the divisisable by 6 metod is a good way to go my self. here's a perfect example...
just got 1/2 case of new rambo's. i've got 5 5 shot racks. so i use one kit for "testing purposes" (hand light em one at a time). and the other 5 kits to fill thoes 5 shots, leaving me with 5 of one type of effect.
had i made the tubes in 6's i could use all the effects in the same manner. (either fronts or barages of the particular effect)

noel, don't just buy 10 boxes. buy the whole case of 12 boxes. i also wantet to know why alot of the racks folks were building were 5, 10, and 20 shot. and the ocasional 80 shot. anything that i have bought have came multiples of 6. except for fab 5's, and other multi-breaks. personaly i likr the small size of the 12 shot racks. and the 24 shot. whatever the end result is the more tubes the better by the doz:) :) :) :D en

I don't think I have ever filled a rack with the same box of shells before.I like variety in my racks.
Lets take a 20 shot rack for example. They are built in 2 rows of 10. I will put the same type and effect shell across from each other.
I will start with say 2 rows of Total Exposure and then the next 2 rows will be Iron Revengers... Next I will put 3 rows of Excaliburs and finish the rack off with 3 rows of Triple Impact.
In one rack you would have 10 different effects from a variety of kits. You would go from a nice round break into some nice tails to breaks to the powerfull breaks of Excaliburs to filling the sky at the end of your rack with 3 break shells.
