I've noticed that most, if not all, of the fireworks related conventions are taking place out west.

Does anyone know of any happening in the eastern part of the US?

Guess our meet could be considered a convention if ya wanted. but I wouldnt say we were out west . if you look at the map we are nearly dead center .
the main r.easons I would guess is the number of states allowing fireworks and open areas for shooting.

I believe PGI is in Wisconsin this year. There's the WPA "winter blast" in AZ in February and there's the hand full of "meets" here on the forum that are in Fireworks friendly states.

As far as in the East, I think Crackerjacks and BlueGrass Pyro are back east and hold conventions or meets. I also believe there's a western New York meet or convention, but not 100% sure on that one...

This is all the ones that I'm aware of....and I hope to make it to Don's place in May if they still have it.....yes that's a major hint Don ;-)

Yes, the PGI is in Appleton Wisconsin this next year. It's gonna be great, less than 2 hours away from my backdoor step.

I believe this is because most of the fireworks companies are based in the midwest so eveybody wants to go some place else for the conventions

The 1985 PGI convention was in Ithaca, NY; 1986 was in Franklin, PA; 1990, Weedsport NY; 1994, New Castle PA.

In 1998 there was a Summer Fireworks Festival in Weedsport NY that was a disaster (Google it) because of a major false fireworks bust resulting in the convention being shut down, several arrests, and blanket confiscation and destruction of at least one vendor's inventory, but I don't believe anyone was ever convicted of anything and the charges were dropped for people who signed an agreement not to sue the state. Investigations into law enforcement wrongdoing (NYC officials acting out of jurisdiction, false charges, etc.) were quashed; you can't find out about them because they are "ongoing investigations" and they will be ongoing forever, with no actual investigation being done, because that protects them from Freedom of Information Act requests. But it is well-known that we have Rudy Giuliani to thank. Anyway, that pretty much ended anyone's willing to take a chance on New York State. (And if you HATE fireworks, support Rudy G. in his further political ambitions, because SO DOES HE!)

Harrisburg PA is apparently one of the places bidding for the 2010 PGI convention.

I'll probably hit the PGI event in Wisconsin. For some reason, I got Wisconsin confused with Washington and was thinking Wisconsin was on the west coast.
