Just happened to be watching the Colts and Patriots football game after the Colts scored there must have been some close proximity pyro that apparently started some artificial turf on fire. Al Michael one of the announcers said "don't get me started when it come to close proximity fireworks." Any feelings on this remark?

Take the comment for what it was. A 5 second spew from someone known for running his mouth to fill time. You can read anything you want into the statement.

I also heard it, but he also said at football games, I wonder if he had something else happen at another game. Or maybe even multiple times.

I caught the coment. I think he prefers the fireworks in his hotel room when his wife's not there..remember ?
I was at the Colts/Houston Game last sunday and the pyro is hanging from the rafters. salutes & Confetti burst. if you notice more and more pyro is being used in sports events. I dont think Al is going to change that.

I thought it was interesting that he had the correct name for it. Truthfully they can be a headache, but they are more than worth the hassle they add to the event. He probably had to wait to get to his trailer because they were loading or clearing a site.

No matter what he said, it was a bad thing that happened. If you do a youtube search you can find some scary video of the world's nastiest airbursts dropping slag over 150' onto the turf, hitting players and setting the field on fire. The NFL has currently put in to effect a " moratorium on all roof-rigged pyrotechnics" until further notice. Bad news for all of us! Hopefully we can still shoot pyro next season at games!

I actually used to shoot the pyro for the Bengals. All of our pyro was pre-game and the main issue we had was smoke. If the wind was still they were worried about the smoke not clearing. One game, against Kansas City I believe, the weather was rainy and misty with no wind. Smoke didn't budge but became fog and they had to delay the game. Made pretty big news. They have since hired a different company as they wanted flames instead of the large proximate pyro. My company didn't want to invest in the flame units. Oh well!!!:brick:

Those of us that attended the St. Louis shoot know exactly what your talking about. ;)

...and those who were at my shoot site this past July 4th. Oh, and the past 3 years before that too. :brick:

They just needed to light a couple fireballs. That would have gotten rid of some of the fog...for awhile at least...in the 100 foot surrrounding the fireball.

They were still using Pyro in the HH Dome this last weekend at the Cowboys/Vikings game.

The fireworks at the Vikings and Cowboys game were done by someone I know from RESPyro. The booms were concussion cannons while the rest was done with RES Pyro Proximate fireworks.

Don't know if this is a joke or not...which is why I didn't reply back in November...but you know Al Michaels has seen a stadium fall apart around him. Yes it was an earthquake, not pyro, but I suspect he gets uncomfortable when the building starts shaking.

Not agreeing with his comments, but I could see where he may be unnerved.

Joe, very cool. I always LOVE seeing that stuff at games.
