Well since it has been raining about every day for the past month it seems, I decided to go ahead and build some more racks. Can't have to many right? :D Just need to add some braces with the scraps.

Those are some sweet looking racks.

I have one question. What did you use for your rails? I going to have to put the rails on one side of my racks when I make them otherwise the tubes will not fit. Just curious to see what you did.

3 inch strips of OSB on the bottom and plywood on the top.

Nice racks aarkie.

Just one question... any particular reason why the bottom rails seem to be elevated about 2 inches from the bottom ??

I just do them that way to get it more in line with the top of the plugs in the tubes. Makes them a little easier to carry too.

By placing the bottom rails lower you would be able to place screws through the bottom rails into the bottom 2x3. This helps strengthen the butt joint between the 2x3s. The bottom 2x3 is taking all the force from the mortars so this reinforcement will add to the racks longevity. This is more of an issue when the rack is at an angle and not fully supported by the ground below.

Lowering the bottom rail would also place the top of the OSB at the same height as your plugs. This potentially reduces the damage from a shell blowing up in the mortar.

Don't get me wrong. Those are nice racks that will serve you well.

Enjoy...Bryan

These are great looking racks. I assume that you have other racks based on your replies posted earlier. If so, do you put any type of product to stop "fire transfer" to your horizontal rails? I would be curious of other members comments about his, too.

What did you use for your vertical pieces. 1x3's?
