I just built this 40 shot rack to night and need some input. Will it be an issue that the 3 side walls are taller than the tubes? I used 1.25 x 4 tongue and groove boards for the bottom and 5/4" decking boards for the front and back and 1/2" plywood doubled up for the sides.

The ones, especially, in the corners of the rack may hit the sides on the way up. It would be best to cut it down to below the tops of the mortars. One person in your audience gets hurt and it's bad news.

I think I would just order 10 more tubes and two 13x13x11 Milk Creates.
Then you would have two 25 shot racks. They are much Lighter and will take more of a pounding than wood being made of HDPE themselfs. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/sauer/angry-smiley-013.gif

You seem to have enough wood to make two 20 shot racks instead of the one 40 shot rack.
Your advantages would be:
* You can space the two racks out for wider sky coverage
* They will be lighter to handle
* You will be able to better fasten the tubes to the rack
* if one tube fails and blows the rack, you will still have another rack to fire.
* You can still put them next to each other and join fuses to make a 40 shot rack.

Food for thought.

I'll look at splitting them. I still have another 30 HDPE tubes and 12 fiberglass tubes. I'm planning to make a fan fack next.
