Alright, my girlfriend is on a horse drill team and they came to me because im "the pyro guy" and asked me to find out about being able to have fountains on top of their flag poles. i know the single cue ignighters would work great for this, but now im stuck with the task of finding the little insert that shoots a fountain of sparks. let me know... Thanks

Just my thoughts & ideas. I know there will be better ones. It's probably to small though.

Be careful on what type of fountains you put on there. a flag is flammable ,remember that fountains have hot sparks comming out of them and can catch fire. i would hate to see your lady in a burn unit.

Personally i wouldnt go with that idea.

This is commonly done for rodeos using silver gerbs and a wireless firing system. In order to keep the sparks flying the right way, the rider must be moving fast enough to unfurl the flag completely, then the sparks and fallout arch over the flag and riders head. The hat they wear needs to be flame retardant also.
Anything in consumer or 1.3 fountains would risk damage/injury.
Ice fountains would be lame and burn very hot.

I would use gerbs and if you don't have wireless a simple switch and a 9 volt battery would do. I think if you want to use fountains putting 4 or so on the gound towards the center of the dirt and have them ride around them would be a safer alternative.

They are considered 1.4, but most places will not sell them to you unless you have some sort of license for proximate or indoor.

They also make what they call champagne bottle sparklers. Sometimes used in restaurants. You still may need to worry about flag and rider, but they might work.

Those are usually ice fountains. Would not work well for this use.

Make sure you are following NFPA 1126, and that non-flammable clothing, etc. is used. Just because you have seen it done, does not mean it was done in accordance with fire code. If you mess up, then it's a fireworks accident that makes life difficult for all of us. How about insurance? Are you covered if there is a problem?

You'll need to find a proximate pyro supplier, and you'll likely need an ATF license before they will sell to you.

You should call the State Fire Marshal and get the names of pyro companies that work in the state. You can then get with them about product, permits, and insurance. I know it seems a bit much for a simple gag but not doing things the proper way is how people get hurt. It will be easier to just say you can't do it than have to explain to your girlfriend that you are not sure how she got burned or the Flag caught fire or even worse. I am getting married soon and had that kind of discussion with my fiancé about pyro at the wedding/ reception. :D
