I need mortars and it appears that I won't be getting any of the fiberglass ones from Colin. I have called every place I can think of in the two states around where I live and either nobody has no idea what the hell HDPE or SDR-11 is or they have HDPE but only SDR-21.
One lady told me that they had 2" SDR-21. Is there even such a thing as that? This stuff was in straight 18 foot lengths for $20.00
Am I wasting my time going down there to look at this stuff and take a inner measurement?

But here is the best one out of the bunch. There's a place in Rhode Island that does have SDR-11 for $2.52 a FOOT sold in either 40 or 500 foot rolls. WTF? At that price I could buy them cut and plugged including shipping!

i think they're for major contracting companies.. you should just go down to your local city public works or energy company and ask if they have any spare sdr-11 hdpe or maybe if you could buy a couple lengths from them.. visit construction sites too cause sometimes they buy too much and don't know what to do with the spare.

I wasnt aware that they made DR 21 in 2". However, if it does exist, its ID would be somewhere around 2.12".

If I was a conspiracy nut I might start thinking that the difficulty in finding this stuff was due to a New England effort to keep people from firing a bunch of shells off at once.

But if I do find it at one of these places what do I tell them I'm going to do with it if they ask? Plumbing?
This has already been a problem while visiting various plumbing supply houses in the area.
I told a couple places that my boss sent me out to look for it and I'm not sure what it's for but some of the places want details thinking they can sell me some sort of substitute.

Telling the truth about it to the wrong person might cause me more trouble then if I said I was building a meth lab.

HDPE has skyrocketed in $$ in last 12mos. super close to x2 price in less than a year...

You do NOT want HDPE in rolls, you want the stick form. They ship from Factory in 40ft, most places sell them in 20ft for easier shipping.

That is a Mfg, check the site and call the sales rep, they will be able to point to to closest Dist center. OR easier, Call pyrogear. You will never get close to his pricing buying and building for yourself once you add plugs and your time into it.

$2.52 a foot psh...I forget where but I saw 12" plugged HDPE mortars for over $5 a piece...OUCH!

With 300 mortars....that puts a dent in the wallet...

I don't think you can beat pyro gears prices anywhere. I have cut and plugged my own mortars and it's a major PITA! I know for a fact they are well stocked right now, but remember the peak buying season is now...wait til close to the fourth and it may be too late!

I drove to Olathe, KS (near KC, called Industrial Sales) and bought some for .80 per foot. I got 4 sticks of 20' lengths and cut them down in the parking lot :)

It seems to me though that you're not around KS/MO. I thought it might help for you to know average prices around here.

I think I spent about 70 bucks. I'm going to throw some money into buying some plus though. Making my own seems to be a little time consuming.

I think the place you're talking about is National Waterworks. I used your clues to find them on the internet but I'll have to wait until Monday to give them a call. There are no prices on the website. They are 65 miles away so gas is a factor in the price but it's a lot closer than ISCO which is in Hartford CT.

Buying 12" mortars from Pyro Gear would be cheaper than ISCO's $1.27 per foot after paying about $45.00 for gas to get to Hartford. But if I go to Pyro Gear I can really only afford to get 100 mortars. I'd like to get more if possible because I'd rather not have to reload during the show.

Do you remember what you paid per foot at National WaterWorks?

I think it was $1.00 a ft. , gas wasn't a factor for as I was working near by w/ company vehicle..lol pretty sure that was the name of the place also .

Is Colin out of fiberglass tubes already? I can drive to Charlotte and get HDPE but it seems stupid unless I cant get tubes from Colin.
I figured out that the drive, the /cutting and the plugging was more expensive than buying premade fiberglass tubes but it sounds like Colin may not be able to help us.

Did your company somehow play a role in this or do they sell to the general public?

And I am indeed in MA but unfortunately so is this guy. (http://www.mass.gov/dfs/news_events/press/fireworks/) (scroll down to the bottom)
