Due to the conversations in a previous thread http://www.pyrouniverse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75
I am going to use fiberglass mortars. I have a couple of questions about this though.
1. Can you plug the bottom of the fiberglass the same as HDPE (Screws and Lags) Because the fiberglass mortars I have now are plugged with fiberglass.
2. Any sites out there selling fiberglass mortars right now? 1.3G .. 4-8"
3 Any sites that sell various IDs of pipe so I can compare and see what I would save making my own?
thx.

1. I've heard of, but not seen, the larger mortars also having bolts through the plug(Fiberglass). Plugs in HDPE can be oversized and pressed in, then secured with staples/bolts.

2. A Couple follow #3. 4" start at about $6 a piece and 8" about $24
3. You DON'T make your own! They are not standard FRE pipe and are built specifically for pyrotechnics. That's what I've been told.

I will be selling 15" long 1.4G fiberglass mortars, as well as larger 1.3G sizes, in about another month. Stay tuned for updates...

The 1.89" tubes like the ones last year are going to be $1.50, but they're 15" long this time (to accomodate larger multi-break shells).
And yes, I will be carrying up to 8" sizes.

Colin; Thank you very much for the nice yellow errr- "planters". They all arrived OK. I hope to plant some Chrysanthemums, Dahlias, Peonies, Tulips, Palms, And Willows in them. They will be set near a fountian and waterfall, with extra shells left around for looks. This garden will be quite a set piece around early July. I can tell that these planters are much better than other flower pots available. Thanks again "PH"

PH, are you going to have any Crackling Flowers, or are those considered "weeds" in your pyro garden.

Ah RudyG, you got something there. Those pesky, weedy crackle flowers eventually will get into the garden. "PH"

Question
I was thinking of getting 100 tubes but don’t know if I should get HDPE or Fiberglass.
I was going with the fiberglass to save money but they are only $20-25 cheaper. Would the HDPE with stand more and last longer then the fiberglass or are they about they same.

"Only" $20-25 cheaper? Sh*t I will buy the fiberglass for you, and then charge you HDPE prices :-) I don't mind the extra $20-25...
Now as for durability, for standard Class C, and assuming you take good care of them. You will probably not last as long as either of the two...
I would say go with the fiberglass for a couple reasons...price and weight..they work the same, and are relatively the same "safety" wise. But for Class C, I don't think it matters too much.

Fiberglass mortars will not last for the same number of firings as HDPE, however they are less likely to degrade through long storage if you are not using them regularly. The wooden plugs in HDPE can sometimes shrink, allowing gas to escape and resulting in inconsistent performance during shows. One piece fiberglass cannot suffer from this problem. My company is moving entirely to fiberglass as we retire older HDPE stock.
