I need to buy some mortar tubes,I have a couple of cases of Aerial Rampage , some small festival balls, radical recoils, and some triple break shells. Can I use all of the same size tubes for all of those? or do I need different sizes for each? what size or sizes do I need for those mortars? can someone please help me out ,thanks

I dont think small festivals can go in the same sized tube as all the other ones as they are 1.5" shells and the other ones are 1.75" shells. Also the Aerial rampages have those bullet cases around all the shells so they are going to be a tight fit.

Standard mortar tubes for consumer fireworks are 1.91" for 1-3/4" shells. That's a 50 mm tube, which is the international standard. It will do for all of your 1-3/4" shells.
If you have smaller shells, you are going to have to use the tubes that came with the kit. There are indeed more different sizes of shells these days, especially for the multi-break shells. I have made some racks using cardboard rocket tubes with about 1-1/4" inner diameter, but I don't know if it's worth the effort unless you have a lot of shells that size.
A snug fit is VERY IMPORTANT. Don't fire 1.5" shells from a mortar intended for 1-3/4" shells. And if you try even smaller (1") shells, you will see they make it up about 5 feet, or go off in the mortar.
Despite what you will be advised on this and other boards, I have never been able to observe a difference in performance between 10", 12", and 15" tall mortars as long as the diameter is appropriate. The snug fit is certainly far more important.

Takerkane, last time I saw the Aerial Rampage shells they didn't have the bullet cover, infact it was a cannister shell. I wonder if they changed them back:confused:

in my experience using festival of balls i always throwed the tubes that came with them away and used the other tubes that i had. i have used them in rambo kid tubes, big guns, mad dog, ect. the only thing that i saw that was a problem and not much of that was the morter didnt get the height that it was supposed to get to before the boom, this was a very slight alitude problem here, just a few feet. ( i do test morters beside a pecan tree in my front yard to check distance that diffrent mortars get to.) if you are concerned about this, test them out with other tubes as i did. i have yet to find one that would not fire it and get to a safe alitude before the boom in the air. as for helping out with the tubes just buy more expensive motar kits,or from pyro tubes.com. and as for length i prefer 15 inch, this one is up to you though. hope this helps.

I bought 2 cardboard mortar tubes from a pyro supply company online that were listed as 2". When I got them, the inner diameter actually measures 2". I put an asian deuce in one and there was some extra room. I then checked the actual tube for the asian duece and was surprised that there was more room around the shell than I would expect. I found the same thing with Artillery 3 shells and the provided tube. I know the 2" tube is definately too large for typical festival ball shells. Can anyone give me some advice on how tight the mortar needs to be around the shell and if an extra 0.1 inch increase in the tube diameter could be a safety risk?

I would not advise shooting shells out of a 2" ID tube. I tested this (in a safe area) shooting a festival ball out of a 2" tube, the shell went atleast 10 ft off the ground before blowing up, so imagine a full sized shell? It would be catastrophic! You could always put tape around the shell to beef it up a little.

Thanks for sharing your experience. As I said, I would not consider using the 2" for 1.5" festival balls, but the extra space noted with the 2" tube and the larger than usual "Asian Dueces" did not seem more than with some tubes that come with the kits. Wanted to know just how snug they may need to be.

Well, with a little tape around them, they probably can fit in there. But i wouldnt risk it, too much chance of the tape getting caught on something or it getting stuck.
