What would be the Min. Tube length for a reloadable mine?? I understand that Mortars need the length for lift, but I would think a Mine would just need some for directivity? I am planning on building a Mine rack. I am going to experiment tonight on diff. lengths:D

tube length will give the mine a tight or lose the star pattern will be.
short= wide
long = tight

I would start at 12" and work your way down! If im correct thats the size that comes with CA's. I would love to see what maybe a 5" tube would do:eek:

If the mine has any sort of secondary effect, crossette, crackle, fish or reports it is best to go with a std.length mortar. If it is too short, it will as you say, "go flat". The effects would be very low, not to mention potentialy hazardous. Test the multi effect mines from a distance, I've been pinged by these in short mortars.

The inside depth of the tubes that came with my Spectacular Mines is 9.5". I've fired them from longer tubes, definitely didn't look as nice, too skinny.

Welp, I did it w/ a 6" tube!! MUCH better effect!!! The spray was a little wider, not quite as high and the lift sound was not as loud. Highly recommend shortening the tube w mines!!!!;)

Ok the CA's do come with a 14 inch paper tube although the inside length is 11 1/4 to 11 1/2 because of the plug in the bottom of the mortar!

I know that preloaded cannon mines are about 6 inches tall and their spread gets very wide. I think what Jim said would be correct as far as creating a lower, more visual , wider effect. There must be something solid behind the shorter tubes becasue most preloaded mines are from 4-6 inches tall.:)

Did a side by side comparison last night between the 14' and the 6". The 6" was a much better effect. the spray was twice as wide and "almost" as high!!! I know I suck I did not get it on video!:(

Yes, you do! BAD PYRO....BAD!! :D
EDIT
You know Jim, your idea gave me an idea to do a test using 4 lengths of mortars: 15", 12", 9", 6". I don't have a camera yet or I would do it myself. Also don't have any mines right now. I would be willing to donate 3 precut fiberglass mortars to anyone who wants to do this test, record it, and post it. That's assuming you already have a 12" or 15" mortar in your possession already. Any takers? Be warned. If you PM me about this and I send you the tubes, I will post your screen name here for all to see.

Now when you say 6" tube, you mean the whole thing, or from the top of the plug to the top of the tube? :confused:
6" and 9" tubes would save you a great deal of money on pipe. :D

Not sure if that was directed at me or Jim. If it was me, then I will cut to whatever the tester wants, 6" including or excluding the plug. Same for the other lengths.

The total length of 6" included the plug. So realistically there was really only 2" of tube abouve the shell. I actually ran like a little girl after i lit it!:lol:
